How to Care for a Wooden Cutting Board
As with most things in life proper care is required to guarantee longevity. Follow the instructions below to ensure that your board retains its initial integrity and beauty.
After each use gently rinse your board with warm water. Wipe dry with a soft cloth and let stand to dry thoroughly.
To disinfect, use a natural cleaner such as white vinegar or a lemon wedge with salt or baking soda. Scrub until clean. Rinse with warm water, wipe with a soft cloth and let stand to dry.
Condition your board every few weeks or months (depending on use), and after disinfecting, with a food safe-oil cutting board oil. You can use any standard butcher block oil just be sure to avoid mixtures that contain vegetable oils as they can spoil once applied. (You could also make your own!) Warm the oil and apply liberally making sure the board is entirely covered. Allow 20-30 minutes for the oil to absorb completely then wipe off the excess.
*Under no circumstances should a wooden board be washed in a dishwasher as it can cause it to warp or splinter.
